This festive season is the perfect time to have fun making these cool electronics Christmas themed coding projects. If you’re looking for some easy and fun Christmas projects to make at home, you’ll discover seven amazing ideas in this blog that will keep you busy and entertained during the holidays.

1. LIGHT UP CHRISTMAS JUMPER PROJECT

This Light up Christmas jumper project is an easy Christmas activity to make with your friends and family. The project will guide you through the steps of making a flashing light Christmas jumper and setting up a Circuit Playground board that has 10 built-in, bright Neopixels and sensors

You’ll create an interactive flashing “star” and attach it to your favourite Christmas jumper using the Adafruit Circuit Playground Classic – 3000. If you’re looking for Christmas arts and crafts ideas, this project is a great one to start with!

2. MUSICAL CRACKER PROJECT

The Musical Cracker project is an easy Christmas DIY project that will be a perfect gift for a tech lover, as the cracker hides a micro:bit inside as a gift! This project will take you through some steps of how to make a musical cracker that plays music when pulled.

It’s an easy project with 3 steps only! You’ll be using Makecode to programme the micro:bit. You’ll then assemble the musical cracker, and rest assured that you’ll surprise your friends and family this Christmas with an original cracker.

3. BLUETOOTH-TRIGGERED XMAS LIGHTS PROJECT

Are you excited about making your own DIY Christmas lights? This Bluetooth-triggered Christmas lights project will show you how to program Xmas lights and switch them on when you bring your phone close to the lights.

Turning on an LED is one of the first projects you do with Arduino, but turning on your Christmas lights is much more fun, especially when you can program them to turn magically on when you walk into the room!

4. SOUND-TRIGGERED XMAS DECORATION PROJECT

The Sound-triggered Christmas decoration project will help you make your own Christmas decorations at home!

This project will run you through some easy steps on how to create animations on your micro:bit and trigger them using the new capabilities of micro:bit V2. You’ll also learn how to use functions and integrate them into your code. When you’re done, you’ll have a flashy Christmas decoration that is triggered by any sound, whistling, clapping, laughter, and more festive cheering!

5. XMAS DOOR CHIME PROJECT

Get into a festive mood as soon as you open the door! This Xmas Door Chime project will teach you how to make a Christmas door chime that will play “Jingle Bells” whenever you open the door. A great way to get into the festive season!

You’ll learn how to use the accelerometer on the micro:bit and the music modules to create and trigger a tune.

6. ARDUINO SECRET SANTA MACHINE PROJECT

Are you looking for cool Arduino Christmas projects ideas? Then this Arduino Secret Santa Machine project is a great pre-Christmas activity that will take the usual Secret Santa to a new level. If you prefer to do it the “long way”, then coding this project will be an amazing alternative to pulling out the names from a hat for Secret Santa.

Following a few simple steps, you’ll be able to build an Arduino Secret Santa machine using a full-colour TFT screen. You’ll be able to program the device to give a new name each time you push the red button. Great fun, right?!

It will print the names on tickets using a thermal printer module. This Secret Santa machine uses an Arduino, the Adafruit ST7735 1.8” colour display and the thermal printer module from Cool Components.

7. MAKE A BLINKING LED PROJECT

This project will teach you how to turn an LED on and off using Scratch 2. It is an easy and fun project, ideal for kids as it introduces them to the basics of coding using Scratch – a drag and drop programming language that is great to start learning programming. This project will take you through some basics of using a Raspberry Pi, programming and circuit making.

As you learn to make a blinking LED, you can get creative and integrate it into a Christmas lights project and make your own Christmas decorations at home.
