Sphero’s Computer Science Foundations (CSF) Course is a supplemental, standards-aligned curriculum designed to be taught in the classroom alongside Sphero robots. CSF teaches STEAM principles through computer science over three 24-lesson courses. Each cross-curricular lesson builds on the previous one and gives teachers the tools to teach computer science confidently and students the fundamentals of computer science.

Sphero’s Computer Science Foundations (CSF) Course is built on the K12 Computer Science Framework Principles and is aligned to various national and international standards, including the Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA) standards and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).

What’s covered in the Sphero Computer Science Foundations (CSF) Course?

The CSF teachers STEAM principles through computer science over three 24-lesson courses.

• Course 1 will help students become more familiar with Sphero Edu. Starting with the Draw Canvas and then Block Canvas they’ll practice beginning and intermediate block programming. By the end of the course, students will demonstrate proficiency with the Draw Canvas and know how to use block programs to manipulate lights and sounds and create loops and conditionals.
• Course 2 is designed for students to dive right into block programming. Starting with Block Canvas topics, advancing into intermediate blocks and then touch on JavaScript programming. By the end of this course, students will demonstrate a mastery of block programming.
• Course 3 will review intermediate and advanced block programming and then give students a primer on JavaScript. By the end of this course, students will be able to develop complex programs with the Block Canvas and rewrite simple block programs in JavaScript.
