Nicla Vision is a ready-to-use, standalone camera for analyzing and processing images on the edge with a tiny form factor of just 22.86 x 28.86mm. Its micro-size doesn’t mean it’s lacking attributes as it’s packed with awesome features, such as its 2MP colour camera, smart 6-axis motion sensor, integrated microphone, and distance sensor. It’s capable of sending collected data via integrated WiFi/Bluetooth Low Energy connectivity and features the powerful STM32H747AII6 Dual ARM® Cortex® – M7/M4 IC core processor. If that’s not enough, Nicla Vision is compatible with Arduino Portenta and MKR products, and supports MicroPython. It’s small in size but big on compatibility!

Nicla Vision’s integrated WiFi/Bluetooth Low Energy connectivity means you can connect devices, quickly implement sensor nodes, visualize data, control, and share your projects, to the Arduino Cloud (or third-party vendor services) from anywhere in the world. On top of that, it’s designed to be compatible with all Arduino MKR and Portenta products, fully integrates with OpenMV, and supports MicroPython. It’s a widely compatible little IoT device.

Nicla Vision is made for making your world smarter, whether that be automating processes, performing predictive maintenance, or even developing autonomous agricultural applications it’s designed to be compact, compatible, and reliable. Some potential applications include:

  • Automated inventory management system – Nicla Vision’s machine vision capability (including QR code/barcode reading) means it can be used to measure the amount or condition of boxes, increasing a company’s (de)palletising process. The built-in WiFi connectivity also allows for straightforward integration with Cloud or ERP systems.
  • Multi-sensor predictive maintenance – With its onboard camera, 6-axis motion sensor, and microphone Nicla Vision is a perfect solution for performing predictive maintenance by integrating into an industrial machine, it can detect noise change (for example the noise generated by defective bearings), or it can detect unexpected vibrations
  • Smart agriculture – One of the potential smart agriculture applications of the Nicla Vision is an autonomous harvester. When integrated into a robotic harvester’s gripper the image processing capability of Nicla Vision can detect crops and even understand when they are ready to be harvested.
