Here’s the thing about home security… it ought to be secure, right? Seems obvious. But in 2014, the European press started reporting on websites that gave people access to hundreds of internet-connected cameras around the world. That meant security-conscious families using cameras for extra peace of mind were being spied on by complete randoms.
This was the catalyst for Point, a home security IoT solution from the start-up Minut. Marcus Ljungblad and the rest of the Sweden-based team wanted to create a better way of keeping homes safe. They asked: if what you need is the ability to tell when something happens in a property that shouldn’t happen, do you need a camera at all? And why keep any sensitive data in the cloud when most computations can happen locally on the device?
