This project will guide you step by step on how to create your own mobile workstation using a ROCK 4 SE single-board computer and the portable monitor from OKdo in just 5 minutes.
Want to set up a mobile workstation using a portable monitor and a compact yet powerful single-board computer? Need to take your workstation mobile? No worries, with the ROCK 4 SE creating a mobile desktop environment is simple!
All you need to make a portable workstation is a ROCK board, a keyboard, a mouse and our portable LCD monitor. The world is your oyster for a remote work location anywhere.
Let’s set-up the portable monitor. Unpack your box. There will be a stand for your screen in the box. Push the inside and then place it in your chosen spot. Stand your display on this stand. You will notice how light the display is.
Unpack the ROCK and insert the SD card (or boot of the device of your choice) into your ROCK board. Follow the instructions here on creating a bootable operating system if you have not already done so.
Pick up the connector for the USB to USB-C from your screen box. Plug the USB side into the top USB 3 port of the ROCK, and then plug the USB-C side into the power supply on the screen.
Pick up the connector for the mini-HDMI to HDMI from your screen box. Plug the mini-HDMI into the screen and the HDMI into the rock.
Plug your mouse and keyboard into the remaining USB ports.
Power on your ROCK computer and turn your display on through the on/off switch located to the right-hand side of the screen. Congrats, you have now set up a desktop environment! This can be replicated anywhere, even in a café!
