Here’s a fantastic fact: you can now power your Pi and provide an Ethernet connection in any location with a single cable. That’s right, one cable. Uno! And it’s all thanks to the Pi PoE Switch HAT, which brings Pi Supply Switch technology together with PoE.

Inside the box you’ll find:

  • 1 Pi PoE Switch HAT board
  • 8 Plastic bolts
  • 4 Plastic spacers
  • 1 Ethernet cable
  • 2 SMD resistors
  • 3 Stickers
  • 1 Info card

So, we’re going to give you a step-by-step guide to setting it up. Let’s go!

Prep your Pi

Install the plastic spacers onto the Pi as shown here, and hold them into position underneath the Pi with the four plastic bolts.

Screw them in with a PH0 screwdriver. If you have difficulty screwing the bolts in, try loosening the rim with a metal bolt to reduce the resistance in the spacer.

Add your PoE Hat

Attach the Pi PoE on top of the Raspberry Pi by pushing the female header onto the Raspberry Pi male header.

Add screws

Screw the last four plastic bolts to hold the Pi PoE HAT in place.

Connect wires

Connect the Ethernet cables as shown in the picture. TIP: If you bought the case for the kit, then skip this step.

Important: Only apply the power after you’ve connected the Ethernet cables. While the Pi PoE has been designed to protect against electrical spikes, it is best practice to connect cables when there is no power present.
