Electrocomponents plc launches OKdo

OKdo and Qualcomm give makers and developers easy access to Amazon Voice Services

Home Hub 100 Development Kit comes with support for voice controlled IoT applications

London, UK, 23 February 2021 – OKdo, the global technology company from Electrocomponents plc, is pleased to announce it is now supplying the Qualcomm® Home Hub 100 Development Kit for Amazon Voice Services (AVS).

Based on Qualcomm’s highly integrated, multi-mode System-on-Chip (SoC), the QCA4020, the Home Hub 100 kit is provided with pre-integrated software support for AVS, to help kickstart the development of voice-controlled IoT applications.

Voice control is rapidly becoming the preferred user interface for consumer IoT devices, such as smart light switches and sockets, as well as controlling appliances and heating systems. With built-in software support for AVS, including Wake-on-Voice (WoV), Acoustic Echo Cancellation (AEC) and far-field noise suppression, the Qualcomm Home Hub 100 Development Kit for AVS gives developers easier access to the world of automation through the IoT.

The Home Hub 100 kit includes three MEMS analogue microphones arranged to provide a wide angle of audio detection. The kit also features eight sensors to support various IoT applications, including: an ambient light sensor; a 3D accelerometer; a 3D gyroscope; a 3D magnetic field sensor, a temperature sensor, a humidity sensor, a pressure sensor and a PID sensor.

Further expansion is supported through a header that provides direct connection to the SoC’s GPIOs and ADC channels. An Arduino-compatible header is also included to give developers even more flexibility.

The multicore, multi-mode QCA4020 SoC supports concurrent Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5 and IEEE 802.15.4 (Zigbee, Thread) wireless connectivity, by integrating separate processing cores for the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth/15.4 interfaces. The application software also runs on a dedicated core; an ArmÒ CortexÒ-M4F, which can be accessed using a number of development environments. A JTAG-over-USB interface is also included, for programming and debugging. Two micro-USB interfaces are provided for supplying power and connecting the development board to a host PC.

“We are extremely excited about the Qualcomm Home Hub 100 Development Kit for AVS,” commented Richard Curtin, SVP of Technology, OKdo. “Voice services like AVS are a real driver for next-generation IoT applications in the home and office. By giving developers easy access to the power of voice-control, we hope to help unleash real creativity across the OKdo customer base.”
