An advanced Arduino®-sized and shield compatible single-board computer, FIGnition inFUZE is targeted at the education and hobby sectors. It comes as a kit with detailed web-based soldering instructions. Even a novice will build their own working PC in a few hours thanks to the standard ‘through-hole’ format (no surface-mount components). You only need to provide three additional items – a TV or monitor with a composite video input, a composite video cable and a suitable mains power supply. The microcontroller device comes pre-loaded with a high-level languag (a dialect of Forth), and you can simply enter programs using the on-board keypad. Since FIGnition is an Open-Source product, third-party suppliers are already developing add-on ‘shields’ for this exciting device.
The on-board Flash memory comes ready-loaded with a selection of games and utilities such as a simple 2-channel analogue data logger. You can even create your own add-on ‘shields’ using copper strip-board.
